Fall Fun with Leaves!

We can’t believe we are actually discussing fall when summer still feels so close! But, as we walk outside with our little ones, one thing is obvious . . . leaves are starting to fall! Let’s make the most of this autumn milestone and encourage language skills!

🍁 Babies:

Scoop up leaves and let your baby discover them with their senses! Talk about what your baby is doing!

  • “Crunchy!” “Throw the leaves!” “Up!” “Fall down!”

🍁 Toddlers:

  • Leaves are the perfect opportunity to target functional first words!

  • Throw the leaves UP.

  • Let’s get MORE!

  • Watch them fall DOWN!

  • Put the leaves IN the basket. Take the leaves OUT! Do you need HELP?

🍁 If your little one has many words, help them put words together:

  • “Red leaves”

  • “Crunchy leaves”

  • “Let’s get more!”

🍁 Preschoolers:

  • Scoop up a pile of leaves and try some of these actives:

  • Sort the leaves by size!

  • Sort the leaves by color!

  • Count how many leaves are in each group.
